Project
»Em•pa•thy« “Empowerment of the patient in therapy” is a novel mobile assistance and navigation system for patients with chronic diseases and prolonged treatment procedures. Designed as a modular platform with individual applications, it is used where traditional forms of documentation and support fail. It places the patients at the center.
Research
How can patients with lengthy disease and therapy procedures be better informed, motivated, supported and activated? What alternative possibilities does a digital tool offer, which refers to success concepts from the game design and thinks “personalized medicine” newly? Methodological approaches and theoretical concepts from game and design Thinking, cultural studies, philosophy, ethnology and medicine are compared, combined and further developed in individual research designs, from which iteratively conceptual designs, prototypes and clinical utilization evaluations in the field of oncological care emerge.
Results
Thinking about one ‘s own role and experience in the health care system affects everyone at some time – participation options for the patient – doctor relationship are thus also interesting for non – patients. In addition, a reorientation of the interdisciplinary research package gives valuable impulses for the work of all disciplines involved. Status: The development of the first own module prototypes was accompanied by a broad basic research phase and is currently entering the second phase of iterative clinical evaluation and concept revision. In addition, the project team publishes research results on the conception and realization of patient-oriented applications. In preparation, further clinical trials are being made for the added value of digital, interactive and gamified patient management, taking ongoing user feedback into account.
